Therapy Descriptions:
Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy: A barefoot technique using deep compression strokes that glide over the body. The therapist uses bars overhead for support and balance to deliver this gravity assisted massage. The root word of "Ashi" means foot and "Atsu" means pressure. So together they symbolize foot pressure. >More
Swedish Therapeutic Massage: Focuses on relaxation and recovery of the physical body. Swedish massage increases circulation throughout the body, allowing for increased absorbtion of nutrients and removal of buildup in the muscles. It is the most commonly known style of massage therapy.
Integrative Therapeutic Massage: Unique form of bodywork involving breath, movement and long flowing strokes with an overall focus on the body, mind, and spirit. This type of bodywork is ideally suited for individuals wishing to become more embodied, mindful, and aware of self as a whole being.
Neuromuscular Therapy: Deep Tissue Massage: Focuses on posture and pain or injuries related to daily living and activity. This style of bodywork involves targeting a specific area in order to bring balance to the whole. Techniques include Myofascial Release allowing for greater circulation and flexibility. Trigger Point Therapy to decrease muscle tension, and Cyriax Cross Fiber Friction to break up scar tissue and realign fibers thereby increasing strength. Stretching techniques might also be used to help lengthen and strengthen muscles.
Prenatal and Postpartum Therapeutic Massage: Focuses during the prenatal phase of pregnancy on reducing stress and increasing relaxation, increasing energy; decreasing edema, decreasing musculoskeletal strains; decreasing stress on joints; improving outcome of labor; and increasing muscle tone and enhancing flexibility. During the postpartum phase massage therapy focuses on restoring abdominal structures and walking pattern; rebalance pelvic and spinal structural alignment; promote pelvic florr healing and comfort; alleviate muscle strain/fatigue of labor and birth; facilitate restoration of pre-pregnancy physiology; nurture and provide emotional support; and prevent and reduce back and neck pain caused by newborn care.
Infant Massage Classes: The bond of motherhood is increased through massage. Mothers learn to give their infant massage in single or small group classes. This form of massage contributes to proper neurological development, creates healthy tone in developing muscles; enhances the immune system; helps reduce the discomforts of digestion, elimination, colic and teething; facilitates better sleep patterns; provides relaxing, pleasant experiences for baby; and for the premature baby, may increase weight gain.
Zen Shiatsu: This is a type of bodywork used in eastern medicine. The purpose is to relieve blocked areas, by using meridian lines of the body. Connecting with the movement of energy in the body helps promote over all health. This is a fully clothed body work and great for maintaining your body’s capability.
Myofascial Release: A form of bodywork that is manipulative in nature and seeks to rebalance the body by releasing tension in the tough connective tissue (fascia). This tissue layer, which connects every muscle, tendon, ligament, bone, and organ in our bodies, can store memories of physical trauma. Releasing these restrictions allows us to discharge recurring emotional as well as physical pain. Sessions can include craniosacral work, stretching techniques, and deep touch. Long, stretching strokes are utilized to release muscular tension.
